I am a community organizer involved in organizing work in the areas of criminal justice reform, economic development, and collective healing within all communities. I recently began serving as Program Manager for Freedom Project. In addition I’m currently a board member with Village of Hope and serve as the community liaison for the Black Prisoners Caucus. I’m originally from Chicago and have been in the Northwest for over 17 years.
I first connected with Freedom Project through an NVC/mindfulness training I took in 2006 while finishing up my sentence at the Monroe Correctional Complex-Minimum Security Unit in Monroe, WA. I immediately recognized the valuable role of this organization in assisting guys like me with tools and attitudes that prepare us for dealing with life after incarceration. NVC helped me develop practical application of the NVC and mindfulness tools in my daily life. This training fostered an attitude of patience and understanding that emphasized the values of compassion, contribution and service. "So, not only am I a participant, but I also had leadership roles that allowed me to be fully invested in every facet of the organization's mission of service." |
